Services were held Feb. 24 at Hamilton's Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery there.

Clarence Chace was born in Mount Vernon, S.D., and had lived in Long Beach, Calif., 53 years before moving to Grimes in 1998. He had lived in Winterset before moving to California. He was a retired electrician with Long Beach Naval Shipyard, a Marine veteran and a member of United Methodist Church in Long Beach. He enjoyed steam engine trains and rock collecting.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a son, William of North Pole, Alaska; a daughter, Mary Harper of Grimes; a brother, Cecil of Yuma, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
