Charles Leonard Hagerman was born March 21, 1932 in Rankin, Oklahoma to Leonard Leon and Ellen Apaul (Peterman) Hagerman. He passed away March 31, 2009 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years and 10 days.
Charles attended school at Meridian and Sweetwater, Oklahoma before transferring to Kelton School, Kelton Texas, where he graduated in 1950. When Charles was 19, he joined the National Guard in Shamrock, Texas. He trained for 2 weeks every summer at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and his unit was called on to help with emergencies when needed. Charles was married to Naomi Kahoa at Elk City, Oklahoma on September 1, 1951 and they made their home in the Sweetwater community where he farmed and also operated a dairy. In 1981, they opened the 100th Meridian Stop on the Oklahoma/Texas line, which the family still operates today. Charles found great pride and joy in being a part of the Sweetwater Fire Department where he was one of three original members who began the department in 1985. He was active as a firefighter for many years and continued to serve on the Board of Directors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, Clint Harrold, 2 brothers, Leon and Billy Joe Hagerman, and a son-in-law, Fred Fleener, III.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi, of the home; his children, Charles Leroy Hagerman and wife, Jackie, Sayre, Oklahoma, Lynn Conward Hagerman and wife, Kay, Geary, Oklahoma, Clara Faye Howell and husband, Kevin, Hull, IL, Virginia Ellen Roller and husband, Gary, Clinton, Oklahoma, Ida Mae Fleener, Lubbock, Texas, Victoria Gail Harrold and husband, Ronnie, Sayre, Oklahoma, Glenda Kay Calverley and husband, Tommy, Sayre, Oklahoma, Janet Joy Hanson and husband, Richard, Sweetwater, Oklahoma; 25 grandchildren, Sharlene, Leslie, Sandy, C.J., Robin, Mandy, Colby, Jennifer, Nelidene, Kevin, Kristina, Levi, Nichols, James, Natalie, Fred IV, Whitney, Kody, Terri, Andrew, Jaycee, Richard, Jana, Stacie, and Robert; 17 great grandchildren and two more on the way; 1 sister, Rita Butler, Graham, Oklahoma; 3 brothers, Verlin Hagerman, Roscoe, Texas, Dale Hagerman, El Reno, Oklahoma, Glen Hagerman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Sweetwater Multipurpose Building with Rev. J.M. Ashley officiating and assisted by Pastor Michael Larson. Burial followed in the Mulberry Cemetery, Sweetwater, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with graveside rites will be officiated by Father Carl Janocha.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Home of Sayre, Oklahoma.
