Miss McCormick attended Ferris Institute (now Ferris State University). After her studies she was employed by Portland Manufacturing as a stenographer.
On Sept 30, 1907 she became the wife of Oscar Rice at Detroit's Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church.
Sara was the first woman elected to public office in Portland in April 1920.
Sara and Oscar resided in the large wooden home on James Street.
Sara was the god-mother of Barbara Ann Johnson, daughter of Donna and Robert Johnson of Portland.
Sara and Oscar had no children.

Sharing a memory. Sara was my grandmother, Isabel Johnson's best friend. When my grandfather died unexpectedly in Aug. 1956, Sara came to our home to be with her. I remember vividly, Sara telling me my grandpa had died.
