Jemima, the wife of Barnabas Kinney, was born in Lyme, New London, Connecticut on November 25, 1757. She was the daughter of Matthew Cooley and Jemima (Gemiah) Rogers. Jemima and Barnabas must have been married about 1775, probably in Broome County, New York, because they started having children in 1776. They had eight children while living in the "White Store" area, north of New Berlin on the Unidilla River. Jemima died in 1814, and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in South New Berlin, Chenango County, New York. Hers is a small, uncut stone, next to the larger stone of her husband, Barnabas, who died in 1834. Barnabas might have been married a second time after Jemima's death.

Jemima Cooley's sister Mercy married Turner/Tamer Calkins, a neighbor of Barnabas Kinney in Columbia County, NY (1790 Census). Turner's son Matthew Calkins was the witness for several deeds of Barnabas and Jemima Kinney.
