In July 1943, while stationed in the Solomon Islands with US Army, 37th Inf Div, HqCo, Clifford C. Currin was mortally wounded and taken to a Solomon Islands military hospital where he subsequently died on 27 July 1943. He was temporarily buried at Papua New Guinea for 5 years. His remains were returned from British Guinea, US Armed Forces Cemetery, Finschaffen No. 5, New Guinea, and interred at Golden Gate National Cemetery on 9 July 1948.
