SNOW CAMP - Mr. Burton Outland Newlin, 84, of 3110 Newlin Road died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, after several months of declining health and critical illness of 2 weeks.
Born in Alamance County on Aug. 16, 1912, he was the husband for 61 years of Daphna Allen Newlin, who survives of the home and the second son of Harvey and Nancy "Nannie" Guthrie Newlin, both deceased. He was a retired Dairy Farmer and Barn Builder. He was a Charter member of West Grove Friends Meeting, where he was an Elder and Clerk for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Conservative Friends, a Charter member of the Board of Directors of the Eli Whitney Volunteer Fire Department and held this position for 18 years. He had been a member of the Alamance County Historical Society. After his retirement, his interest included travel and the study of Genealogy.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by David Hobson, pastor of Rocky River Friends Meeting, Rex Jones, pastor of Chatham Friends Meeting and Reverend Ross Carter, pastor of Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home are daughters, Mrs. Katherine N. Hadley of McBane Mill Road, Graham and Mrs. Helen N. Bowers of Newlin Road, Snow Camp; sister, Martha N. Hartley of North Lima, Ohio; brothers, Harvey R. Newlin of Burlington and Alfred C. Newlin of Siler City; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mary N. Bray.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7-9 p.m. tonight and other times at the home.
