Douglas W. Polite Sr., 82, of 58 N. Pleasant Ave. died Monday, March 30, 1998, at St. Mary Medical Center.

Born March 24, 1916, in Galesburg to Harry L. and Alice Milan Polite, he married Mary Worden on June 9, 1938, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Frank of Galesburg, Douglas of Springfield, Philip of Edwardsville, Michael of Libertyville and Patrick of South Bend, Ind.; two daughters, Mary Cline of Libertyville and Patrice Smedinghoff of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one sister, Patricia Cassini of Galesburg.

He attended Brown's Business College and Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.

He was a purchasing agent for Admiral Division of Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Maytag Management Club.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Joseph O'Connor Hunt Council 556, Corpus Christi High School Quarterback Club and Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
