Harry W. "Scotty" Scott Jr., 88, died March 26, 2009, at Brandon Woods Nursing Home, Lawrence, Kan.

He was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Liberal, Kan., the son of Dr. Harry and Myrtle Willis Scott, Sr.

On July 2, 1946, Scotty married Evelyn P. Medearis in Hutchinson, where they resided for most of their lives. She died June 21, 1999.

A 1938 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Scotty served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, he retired in 1980 after 39 years as a purchasing agent for the Santa Fe Railroad. A dedicated husband and father, he will be remembered for his strong character and sense of humor by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lou Ann Scott; Eudora, Kan.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Rex Pryor, Shawnee, Kan.; and grandchildren, Bailey and Connor Scott, Eudora, Kan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clemmie Craig.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Stephen Taylor presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military graveside honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Memorials may be sent to the donor's choice, in care of the mortuary.
