Son of William Watt & Verna White Turner, he was born in Portsmouth, Ohio. He died at Fairfield Medical Center. While in the Army after high school graduation, he served 30 months in the European Theater of Operation during WWII ending in the 28th Division Reconnaissance. He was in the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton and was awarded three bronze stars for his service in the Army. After the war, he attended The Ohio State University on the G.I. Bill but had to quit college to return home to care for his mother. He has worked as a teller at Ohio National Bank in Columbus, as administrative assistant with the Lancaster National Guard as a Master Sergeant, a draftsman as Diamond Power, and retired from the Utility Collection Department as a meter reader. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1380, American Legion Post 11, member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, lifetime member of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association, and the American Rifle Association. During his years in the National Guard he participated at Camp Perry in the National Rifle Association Matches in 1951, 1952, and 1953. Survivng are his niece; a nephew; cousins & many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; & a sister, Elizabeth Rispalje. The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009. at The Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 North Columbus Street, Lancaster, Ohio, with Pastor Lewis Wittman officiating. Friends and family may visit on Monday, April 13, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. A caring cremation will take place and burial will be in Memorial Burial Park Cemetery in Wheelersburg, Ohio, at a later date.
