According to trees on Ancestry, Ashby was the son of George Ashby Farrow and Amanda S Hansborough/Hansbrough. In the 1870 census, he is age 7 living in Samuel Miller Township, Afton Post Office, Albemarle County, VA. It shows siblings Eugene 12 and Georgia 10. He is living with his mother, A.S. Farrow age 45 - no father present. They are apparently wealthy landowners as the value of the real estate is set at $33,000.

He married Cornelia Witsell, daughter of Walter Hamilton Witsell and Mary Ann Burbidge of Walterboro. A tree shows the date of marriage as 17 Aug 1890, but I have not found a record for this yet.

They settled in Charleston. They had one known son, John Burbidge Farrow who married Adelaide Lennarton Ferguson.

After his death, in 1908, his widow Cornelia married Washington Augustus Roebling. His father designed the Brooklyn Bridge and, with his first wife Emily, he completed the construction of it. Cornelia was married to Washington for over 20 years. After his death, she returned to Charleston. She bought the William Gibbes estate in 1928, which is well known in the area.
