Fannie Leah Finstein Youslovitz Kersner (1861-1922) was born, perhaps, in Germany, although her true place of birth remains unknown. (Her gravestone reads "1859" as her date of birth, although her death certificate lists 1861 as the date of birth.) The daughter of Solomon Finstein and his wife - whose name is unknown - she came to America after having at least five children who bore the name "Smith," although we have no record as to who the father of these children was. (They were all born outside of the United States, and there appears to be no birth certificates to examine.) After arriving in the United States about 1890/91/92, she married German immigrant Morris (also spelled Morace) Kersner, and, with him, had two daughters and a son, Samuel, who died as an infant. In 1900, Fannie reported that she had eight children in all, and it appears that 7 of them lived to adulthood.

Morris and Fannie became ill in late 1921; on 14 April 1922, Morris died, and was laid to rest in the Tifereth Israel Cemetery in New Bedford, where the two of them lived. Fannie succumbed to her illness on 31 December 1922, apparently at the age of 61, although this is pure speculation. She, too, was buried in the Tifereth Israel Cemetery, ironically near the in-laws of her daughter, Eva Smith Kersner Davidson. I am related to Fannie through her daughter Eva, who was my great-grandmother.

Fannie Kersner was the mother of:

Mary Smith (1881-?)
Anna Smith Long (1883-1974)
Robert Smith (1886-?)
Eva Smith Kersner Davidson (1889-1988)
Nellie Kersner (1892-?)
Sarah "Sadie" Kersner Kurland (1894-1971)
Samuel Kersner (1899-1899)

May Fannie and her husband rest in peace.
