The Warrensburg Standard, July 11, 1889:

Misses Lillian and Nellie Butchers who have been spending part of the vacation with Wm. Zolls family left on the noon train for Carthage.

The Warrensburg Standard, July 11, 1890:

Among the pleasant parties were those given by Misses Nellie Butchers and Clara Stacy, Miss Amy Cohn, Miss Blanche Harwood and Miss Jessie Donovan. But of all the festivities, none were so weird in effect and so perfectly carried out as the Phantom parties. The ghostly visitants, draped from head to foot in white, marched solemnly through the streets and from the hour of eight until early midnight, many of our citizens received calls from them. Without any warning, there would "suddenly be a rapping, as of some one gently tapping at your chamber door," and the phantoms would glide in, without saying a word, but with awful gestures, and take possession of your home.

A particularly ghostly party known to the world as L.S-, B.H-, J.R-, F.M-, N.G-, E.J-, M.S-, and chaperoned by Mr. C-, carried out their parts to perfection. Their calls were very brief and genteel for ghosts, and on taking their leave they informed you they would appear to you again one year from that night. We shall all anticipate with pleasure, their next annual visit.

The Johnson County Star, November 8, 1890:

At the residence of Mr. Dobyns on Ming street Misses Nellie Butchers and Clara Stacy entertained a few friends last week in a very pleasant manner. Refreshments and various forms of amusement were provided. Those present not already mentioned were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank DeGarmo; Misses Mary A. Kennedy, Lillian Butchers, Nellie Hillhouse, Flora Loebenstein, Fanita Baldwin, and Rose Jacobs; Messrs. Leon Coleman, Wm. and Erik McClean, Lawson Stone, J.B. McDonald.
