REV. EVERETT R. SHAFER ~ (3 October 1911~9 August 2005)

Rev. Everett R. Shafer, 93, of Pomona Park, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005.
He was born on October 3, 1911 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. He was the loving husband of Mary [Crizer] Shafer for 59 years and they were blessed to have two children. His wife, Mary, died in December, 1995. He was an active minister and pastor for 69 years in West Virginia and Florida. He retired from the school system in both states; served in the West Virginia State House of Delegates; was a member of the Masons; and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He dedicated his life to the service of the Lord and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met. He was a member of the Welaka Baptist Church, where he served as pastor from 1977 to 1985. He served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, West Virginia for several years prior to moving to Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Arthur Shafer and Labertha Velmer [Hamrick] Shafer; two sisters; and two grandsons.

Survivors are his children, David R. Shafer of Lawson, Mo., William A. "Bill" Shafer of Crescent City, John M. Shafer of Pomona Park, Ruth Ann Paugh of Monroe, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Welaka Baptist Church with Revs. Dennis Simpson and Dallas Clay officiating. Interment will follow at Eden Cemetery in Crescent City. [Palatka Daily News\Obituary dated 11 August 2005.]
