Joel Cornish was a Colonel in the Iowa Calvary and Served in the Civil War. Joel was the first Park Commissioner of Omaha, Nebraska. He moved from Iowa to Nebraska in 1886. Joel was living in Sidney, Fremont, Iowa in 1860, and Hamburg, Freemont County, Iowa, in 1880. In 1874 he started in the banking business. He organized the First National Bank of Hamburg, Iowa. See the "History of the Cornish Family in America", by J.E. Cornish, 1907. See page 172.

Joel's parents were Allen Cornish and Clarissa Cornish.

Joel married Virginia Raymond on 6 Aug 1850 in Cuba, New York. They had four children that I have recorded thus far:

Ada Leila Cornish
Anna Virginia Cornish
Albert Judson Cornish
Edward Joel Cornish.

There is a question as to whether Joel was born in Rome or Lee Center, New York. Tombstone says he was born in Rome.
