Mary Etta Lee passed away on Saturday, January 18, 1947, at 7 p.m., at St. Joseph's hospital in Lewistown. She was the widow of the late Noah Lee who passed away on January 6, 1945.
Mary Etta Secrest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Secrest, was born near Clarence, Iowa, on August 6, 1863. Leaving Iowa at the age of six with her parents, they moved to Allen county, Kansas, where they resided for six years and then moved to Hall county, Missouri, where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 23, she, with her parents, removed to Pratt county, Kansas. She was married at the home of her parents near Cullison, Kansas to Noah Lee on March 12, 1889. She and her husband moved to Reno county, Kan., where four children were born to them, three boys and one girl. Orville Thomas passed away Sept. 12, 1903, at the age of 2 1/2 years; Ruby Ethel died March 10, 1906, at the age of 14 months. Mrs. Lee with her husband and two sons, Roy and Ray, came to Montana in 1913 and settled near Coffee Creek. They moved into town in 1936, where she resided until her death. The two sons survive her--Roy of Wenatchee, Wash., and Ray of Sunburst, Mont. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Grandma Lee was of the pioneer type and always had a great determination to take care of herself. In her earlier days, when people were in need of care in time of sickness, it was to Grandma Lee they turned for help. Her sturdiness of character was an example to the community. She was a member of the Coffee Creek church and always attended services whenever it was possible. Her favorite song was "Count Your Many Blessings." One never heard her complain of her lot.
