Anna Marie Rhodes, 91, formerly of Williamsport, Pa., passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Collingswood Nursing Center, Rockville, Md. She was born in Barbara, Pa., daughter of the late Harry W. and Sara Catherine (Wagner) Rhodes. She also was reared in the home of an aunt and uncle, J. Oscar and Effie Books. Surviving are three nieces: Carole "Suzzie" (Books) Finn and husband, John, of Germantown, Md., Anne (Books) Moroneso and husband, Philip, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sally Keller and husband, Jay, of Tyrone; six grand-nieces; and four grand-nephews. Anna was preceded in death by a brother, I. Melvin Books, and a sister, Erma Books. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Williamsport. She was a 1935 graduate of Altoona High School. Anna retired as the chief operator and supervisor of Bell Telephone in various locations with more than 39 years of dedicated service. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and various associations in Williamsport. Anna also was active in the Operators, 1941-45 group. She was an avid world traveler. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona. A funeral service will be held immediately after the viewing at 11 a.m. by Pastor L. Hugh Gowan. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, April 17, 2009, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Williamsport. In memory of Anna, contributions may be given to a charity of your choice or to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, Pa.
