Vern Alstead, 91, of Evansville, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 29, 1912, in Amherst, S.D., to Victor and Bessie (Draper) Alstead. He attended country school in South Dakota and District 38 and 52 at Evansville.

On May 7, 1938 he married Thelma LaRyne Homme at Britain, South Dakota. He worked as a farmer on a farm three and a half miles northwest of Evansville.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing especially his fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. He also enjoyed his family and grandkids.

He is survived by his son, Gene (Diane) Alstead of Evansville; daughter, Wanda (Steve) Walwick of Underwood; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Harriet (Arthur) Jacobson of Evansville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Bessie Alstead; his wife, Thelma; sons, Roger and Donald; sister, Jean Anderson; brother, Robert Alstead; and two nephews, Richard Alstead and Gerald Anderson.

Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Faith Lutheran Church of Evansville
