Nesta Louise Miles Wier was born in Cambridge, Maryland along with three brothers. She lived on Lanvale Street in Baltimore after the family moved so her father, Alonzo Lee Miles, could practice law. In 1913 at the age of 19 she married Charles Henry Wier, Jr. at Memorial Protestant Episcopal Church at 6:30pm. The Wier and Miles families lived on West Lanvale Street, just two doors apart, for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Wier moved to Salisbury, Maryland and raised a family of four daughters - affectionately known as the "Wier Sisters." Following the death of her husband, Ms. Wier moved to Easton, Maryland where she had many friends. She operated an antique business for several years and was known as an expert in furniture of the Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania areas. She also established a real estate business in the adjoining shops of the Tidewater Inn specializing in waterfront farms and estates and is remembered as a "dynamo" in the profession. In fact her death came in a tragic automobile accident near Queenstown while she was driving to meet a client to close her last real estate contract.

Two of Mrs. Wier's brothers attained prominence in Maryland business and politics. Clarence W. Miles worked with Baltimore Mayor Tommy D'Alasandro to buy the St. Louis Browns from owner Bill Veeck and bring them to Baltimore as the Orioles in 1954. Mr. Miles served as team President 1954-1955. He also co-founded the law firm of Miles & Stockbridge.

Hooper Steele Miles served as the Maryland State Treasurer 1935-1963.
