Mansfield Quincy Gunnell

Retired Sergeant First Class Mansfield Quincy Gunnell of Kents Store, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, February 20, 2009, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was born September 3, 1927, in Fluvanna County, the son of the late Mansfield and Edna Tyree Gunnell. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cyrus and James Gunnell.

Mansfield received his education at S.C. Abrams High School in Palmyra, Virginia, was a United States Army veteran and member of the 80th Division Army Reserve Unit. He was a member of Keystone Lodge #188 and a brickmason by trade.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife of 51 years, Eliza Agnes Gunnell; a daughter, Myra G. Turner and her husband, Anthony, of Douglasville, Georgia. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Gunnell of Kents Store, Virginia; a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A special "Thank You" to Allen Ambulance Services, Hospice of the Piedmont, Amedisys Home Health Services, Dr. Kevin McConnell, and staff.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Palmyra, Virginia.

Services of comfort entrusted to the staff of McClenny Funeral Service Inc. Doris A. McClenny Mortician.
