Barbara Joyce Jones

Barbara Joyce Jones, 81, died peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2009, with family at her side.

She was born in Liverpool, England, the daughter of Alfred Henry Cann and Lilian Hughes. Her beloved husband of 55 years, Thomas Jones, had passed away in 2003.

Joyce was the mother of Glynis Lee of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Michael Jones of Salt Lake City, Utah; and grandmother of Garrett, Morgan and Alison Lee and of Elyse and Miranda Jones. She loved her son-in-law, Mark Lee and daughter-in-law, Lori Kowaleski Jones, as if they were her own children, and they loved her as a mother.

Joyce had emigrated from England with her husband and daughter in the late 1950's. She was fiercely loyal to her family, and helped set an example of family togetherness that is being carried on by her children, who are best friends and talk on the phone daily despite the 2,000 miles separating them.

Ever young at heart, Joyce loved to laugh. She kept current, frequently surprising and delighting her grandchildren with an interest in popular music and culture, and enjoyed frequent email exchanges with them. At 75, she rode nearly every ride at Disney World, including Space Mountain! Joyce was also an avid reader and news hound, and made a point of knowing the day's weather at every point on the globe where she had friends and family.

We will dearly miss this fine woman who so enriched all of our lives.
