Owen Brown, son of the late James Paralee Brown, died at his home, 907 South Prospect Avenue, about 1 o'clock this afternoon following an illnes of about two weeks. Mr. Brown was born on a farm in Cole County near Jefferson City. September 2,1847 and resided there until a young man. He married about fifty years ago to Miss. Alice B. Hill, who preceeded her husband in death, September 6,1931. They came to Sedalia to reside a short time after their marriage. Mr. Brown, although blind since he was fourteen years old, had been very active up to the time of his recent illness. Mr. Brown was one the pioneer residents of Sedalia, and was associated with the early history of the railroads here when they were in thriving conditions. For a number of years Mr. Brown conducted a book and wallpaper shop in East Sedalia, which was then a flourishing business district. In spite of his affliction, he carried on successfully his business ventures and won the admiration and estem of his associates and friends. Like his wife, the late Mrs. Brown, he was always interested in the welfare of Sedalia and aided her in her efforts with the late Mrs. Jaynes and other prominent women, to bring about the moving of the capital from Jefferson City to Sedalia. It will be remembered that it was the late Mrs. Brown who founded the the school for the blind in St. Louis. Ten years ago Mr. Brown was converted to the Catholic Church and has been a faithfull member since that time. His kindness and devotion to his wife and children and courageous and noble character were ever a source of inspiration to all with whom he came in contact with. Surviving are three children, Mrs. J.L. Perrin of R.F.D. No. 6 of Sedalia, Mrs. Ralph W. Street of Kansas City and Ira W. Brown of Ottumwa, Iowa. A daughter Edith Mary died in infancy. The body was taken to the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel and will taken back to the home this evening. Complete arrangements have not been made. Services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 9 o'clock Thursday morning.
