From 1942 to 1946, he served in the Air Force Photography division.
Mr. Flye was self-employed nearly all his working life. He was a pioneer in bait worm exporting and established Maine Bait Co. in 1940, retiring in 1985. He also operated Pictorial Studios, a Newcastle photo studio, from 1938-1987.
In 1954 he married Lucille Nash, and lived for many years on Church Street in Damariscotta.
Surviving are his wife of Damariscotta; a son, Charles A. of Greenwich, Conn.; a daughter, Martha Gault of Colorado; a stepdaughter, Judith Graffam of Round Pond; two brothers, Claude of Arizona and Robert of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Friday, November 24 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Freedom. Arrangements were by Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta.
