Shelby Leach 86, died at 9 a.m in Heritage Home where he had resided the past 3 years. His home was Route 3, Plainview. Services were held at 4 p.m Friday in the Chapel of First Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev Carl Lamb and retired Baptist minister of Plainview assisted by the Rev John Goss, a Baptist minister of Ralls. Burial was in the Plainview Cemetry.
John Shelby Leach was born 29 March 1894 in Hale County in a half-dugout about 50 feet from his home at the time of his death. He had lived in the same place all of his life. Mr. Leach raised cattle and farmed.
An Active member of the Finney Baptist Church until he became ill.He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a supporter of Wayland Baptist College and Buckners Orphans Home. He was active in Hale County Historical Society and on the board of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon. He spent some winters in Arizona and was active in church work there. He married the former Osa Mae Wisecup Aug.20,1939 in Plainview. She died Jan 2,1975 in Planview.Suvivors are two son Paul W. and Joe S Leach both of Plainview and 4 grandchildren.
They had one son John Virgil who died at birth 27 Jun 1930
