Virgil A. ("Bud") Schwarz died April 28, 1990, at Tacoma General Hospital. He was born in New Rockford, North Dakota on December 10, 1918. He served with the U.S. Army for 4 1/2 years, receiving a commission and serving with distinction during World War II. Afterwards, he moved to Tacoma, where he began to study the insurance business. He founded Schwarz, Shera and Associates, a group insurance brokerage firm, where he was Chairman of the Board at the time of his death. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Parish, and took an active leadership role in a large number of local religious, charitable, professional, political and social groups. Particularly close to his heart were his activities in support of local educational institutions.

Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Geraldine R.; children, Robert, of Forest Lake, Minn., James, of Portland, Ore., William, of Tacoma, Deanie, of Seattle, and Thomas, of Tacoma; sisters, Theda Frederick, of Enderlin, N.D., and Beatrice Pentacost, of Tacoma; brothers, Milton, Terrance, and Richard, of Tacoma, and Rodney, of Fountain Valley, Calif.; 4 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at 1002 S. Yakima Avenue Chapel. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Reception will follow at The Lakewood Terrace Restaurant. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Association. Arrangements by Gaffney, Cassedy, Allen and Buckley-King.
