Established the Hoyt's Donut Company (later called Hoyt's Bakery) in 1910. Was known as "The Mayor of 6th Avenue" and as the "Doughnut King". After retiring he converted his farm property near McChord Air Force Base into a duck sanctuary.
Hunting had always been his main sport.

He was a charter member, past president and secretary of the 6th Avenue Businessmen's Club. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, the Elk's Lodge, Joseph Warren Lodge No. 233 F&AM, past president of the Young Men's Business Club, member of Tacoma Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons, Ivanhoe Commandery and the Afifi Temple of the Shrine. Member of the 6th Avenue Baptist Church.

Born in Oakland, California. Spent part of his youth in Hillsboro, Oregon. Attended grade and high school there and Pacific University at Forest Grove.
