Born in Brisbane on 5 November 1918, Roy was the son of Carl & Elizabeth Hermann.

QX17935, Pte R.A. Hermann enlisted in the A.I.F. on 21 January 1941 at Brisbane, and was assigned to the 2/26 Battalion.

He survived his time working on the Railway as a member of "F" Force, and returned to Changi in December 1943.

During the night of 18 April 1945 he was observed leaving his hut, but could not be found at Roll Call the following morning. A full scale alert was sounded, and a meticulous search commenced, with his body being found.

He had died in mysterious circumstances - did he commit suicide or was he pushed & murdered? No body will ever know, though a number of theories survive.

"When you go home,
Tell them of us, and say,
For your tomorrow,
We gave our today."
