True Elizabeth Reynolds Vandergriff Hinton, 82, of Lakeside Village, began her journey down the peaceful river to her Heavenly home, Wednesday, April 15, 2009. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Lawson Funeral Home.

True was born on the family farm outside the rural community of Little, Okla., to the late Grady and Hattie (Hack) Reynolds. During World War II, at the age of 17, True left the farm to join the U.S. Women's Army Corp Nursing Program in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In lieu of her military service work, the state offered True the opportunity to take the State Board Nursing Exam without the normally required textbook studies. True passed the exam and received her Licensed Vocational Nursing Certificate. During the war, she corresponded with and later married Ray Vandergriff in 1945.

True and Ray moved to Fort Worth, where True began her career at St. Joseph's Hospital. While in Fort Worth, their union was blessed by the addition of three children, Perry Clark, James Ray Jr. "Jim" and Ginger Ann.

Later, True met and married Howard Hinton in 1973, and lived in Colleyville, continuing her nursing vocation until she retired in 1990. She enjoyed spending her retirement traveling, dealing in antiques and spending time with her family. In 1991, True and Howard purchased their home in Lakeside Village, where they enjoyed frequent family gatherings, flower gardening and her two pets, Pepper and Whitney.

True was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; a son, Jim; parents, Grady and Hattie Reynolds; brothers, Hadley, Truman, Gerald, Wayne and Terry "Bud"; and sisters, Ruth and Phyllis.

Survivors include a son, Perry Clark Vandergriff and wife, DiAnn, of Meridian; daughter, Ginger and husband, Jerry, of Hurst; step-daughters, Becki Estremo and husband, John, of Richland Hills, and Cindy King and husband, Gene, of Star City, Ark.; grandchildren: Danny Lisa, Lana, Julie, and Christie; step-grandchildren: Tracy, Jesse and Paul; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Reynolds and wife, Maxine, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, June Maxey, of Edmond; sisters-in-law: Hazel Reynolds, Fay Reynolds and Beatrice Britton; as well as other relatives and a multitude of friends, who will miss her presence.
