William E Calhoun was born in Mountain Grove, Missouri on Mar. 23, 1868. He farmed most of his life but was a deputy sheriff, being sworn in Oct. 18, 1920 for the county of Garland, Ark. He was elected Oct 3, 1922 as Justice of the peace for the township of Mazarn in Garland county. He took office Jan. 1, 1923.

William married Mary Belle Hughes Nov. 2, 1890.

They had six children; Lola May , Minnie Lee, Ethel Gertrude, William Fred, Floye Vivian and Carl Ernest. His wife died soon after the last child was born, Oct. 31, 1903. Ethel, Floye and Carl all died while they were young in Hot Springs, Ark. William married Cynthia Ann Buck Feb. 4, 1904 in Hot Springs, Ark. They had one child George Virginia, and were divorced Jan. 29, 1907.

On Aug. 31, 1908, William married Lenora (Potter) Springer in Spokane, WA. They were divorced before 1910. She later married Matthew Meyers in 1911 and passed away in 1965.

William married Jenny Stella Dollarhide Aug. 20, 1920 in Little River Co., Arkansas. They had three children; Lois Maria, Jess Willard and Alfred Talmage. They moved to Wenatchee in 1927 and after about a year Jenny returned to her family in Ark. The children remained with William. William found work with Jess Baker at the Wenatchee Fuel yard. They settled in a house on Miller Street until 1937 when William rented a farm at Plain, Wa. They had a large farm house and raised hay, had milk cows, pigs, horses and a big garden that kept the family fairly busy with the chores.

After Lois married and left home, and Jess went in the service in Feb. 1, 1941, William bought a house on 927 So. Wenatchee Avenue. He served as a guard for Columbia river bridge during the war. When Jess returned from the service, after the war, he lived there until Jess's married and then lived with Jess and his family until a stroke put him in a rest home for six months where he recovered enough that his family were going to give him birthday party at the Stemilt Grange hall. He had a strode that morning and died Mar. 26, 1958.
