Bert, as everyone called him, died Monday at the Story County Hospital, where he had been a patient for five weeks. He previously was bedfast in the home of his daughter, Gladys Gray, north of Rhodes, for 12 weeks.
Tuesday afternoon the body was received into the home of his daughter, and on Wednesday the body will be buried.
He received his education in rural schools and farmed with his father until he married.
After marriage he and his wife lived one year on a farm south of Maxwell, then moved to the old home place of her folks near Melbourne.
Bert raised purebred cattle, hogs and farmed. He was involved with town work, such as a councilman for several years and president of the school board.
The Pikes sold their farm and moved to Marshalltown in 1945. They lived there until 1959, when they came to live with their daughter Gladys who had lost her husband.
