After her husband, William H. Cadwell, found work in Port Ludlow, W.T., Clarissa and her young daughters Olive and Sarah took the train from New York to San Francisco and then a steamer up the coast to Pt. Townsend, arriving in November, 1877. Later the family settled at Pole Pass on the West side of Orcas Island. When her daughter Olive died, Clarissa helped her son-in-law raise her grandchildren. Later Clarissa made her home with her other daughter and son-in-law (Sarah and O. T. Loos) in Deer Harbor.
