Zethel Mary Bennett, 88, of 1868 Pluto Road, Shady Spring, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness.
Born June 19, 1911, at Pear, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Nannie Plumley Bennett.
Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker, of the Holiness faith and lived most of her life in the Pluto Road area.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Andrew Bennett and Ellis Wade Bennett, and an infant son; two brothers, Chester and Wade Thomas Bennett; and three sisters, Flora Bragg, Meredith "Kitty" Goodson Kincaid and Zona Stacey.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Ellas Bennett; a son, Jimmy Darrell Bennett and his wife, Elsie, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring; four daughters, Retha Redden and her husband, Daniel, of Charmco, Emma Allen and her husband, Billy Joe, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring, Marie Bragg of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lutcy Scott and her husband, Harrison, of Mabscott; five sisters, Eva Goodson of Abraham, Elzena Bennett of Akron, Ohio, Lorene Goodson of Shady Spring, Novella Bennett of White Oak and Ella Mae Bennett of Raleigh; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Davy Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Plumley Cemetery, Plumley Mountain.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
