James Harold Rowe

James Harold Rowe, the 12-year-old son of Capt. and Mrs. James A. Rowe, of Gwynn, died Monday, March 24th at Riverside Hospital, Newport News. He was taken suddenly ill and was rushed to the hospital where he died in about thirty minutes after arrival. The remains were brought to Mathews the same evening prepared for burial and taken to his home. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gwynn's Island Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. I. E. Belch. Interment was made in the Island Cemetery.

Harold was a bright and attractive lad and had many friends. There was a large gathering at the funeral and many beautiful floral tributes.

The active pallbearers were his classmates, Vernon Rowe, Elwood Callis, Jr., James Callis, Laurie Morgan, Irvy Hudgins and Burton Gay. The honorary pallbearers were all schoolmates: Roberta H. Hudgins, Jaunita Edwards, Frank Powell, Edgie Majette, Rodney Adams, Buddie Sparrow, Walter Godsey, Jack Godsey, Kenneth Rowe, Charlie Brown, Marchant Powell and John Elmo Godsey.
