David C. Abell, 79, of Green­wood, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Morganfield, Ky.

David retired from National Starch as a tow motor operator in 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post 331. David served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1950.

David enjoyed square dancing, woodworking, crafts, boating and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Mary E. (Gaalema) Albertson Abell; six sons and five daughters-in-law, Ralph and Evonne Abell, Roger and Rita Abell, Russ and Kim Abell, Ronald and Judy Albertson, Bruce and Kathy Albertson and Daniel Albertson; a granddaughter they raised in their home, Curineia Hanson; three sisters, Fannie McSpadden, Joyce Powell and Barbara Abell; 23 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, six brothers, five sisters and his parents.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
