Mrs. S. L. Abernathey
Gloucester - Mrs. Sarah Lewis "Sadie" Abernathey, 91, died Monday in Walter Reed Convalescent Center.
Born in Mathews County, she was a member of Mount Zion United Metghodist Church, Gloucester.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Virginia Heywood of Bena, Mrs. Bessie A. Clements of Gloucester, Mrs. Kathryn A. Lemmon of North, Mrs. Margery A. Hughes of Newport News, Mrs. Anne A. Henshaw of Richmond; three sons, George W. Abernathey of Winston-Salem, N.C., Charles Aaron Abernathey of Gloucester and H. Leslie Abernathey of Hampton; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, by the Rev. W. Stewart Maxey, the Rev. J. Martin Diggs and the Rev. Galen Lemmon. Burial will be in Locust Grove United Baptist Church Cemetery, Dutton.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 830 tonight and request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the building fund of Mount Zion United Methodist Church or the building fund of Locust Grove United Methodist Church.
