Eugene John Boroughs Jr., 80, of Col u m b u s died at 12:37 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

A U.S. M a r i n e Corps retiree, Mr. Boroughs served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retirement he worked as a deputy sheriff in Tennessee and in marketing at Ober Gatlinburg in Tennessee.

He was born into the Catholic faith and attended Shiloh Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church on West Georgetown Road with Brother Larry Calhoun officiating. There will be no calling. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Shiloh Baptist Church on West Georgetown Road.

Arrangements were made by Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street.

Mr. Boroughs was born in Terre Haute on Nov. 5, 1928, the son of Eugene and Gladys Carnahan Boroughs. He married Marilyn S. VanEst on Oct. 21, 1988, in Dandridge, Tenn.

Survivors include his wife; sons, E. John Boroughs III of Pendleton, Jon Scott Boroughs of Columbus and Mark (Sabrina) Boroughs of Columbus; daughters, Gina (Tony) Albanese of Reno, Nev., and Susan Boroughs of Columbus; stepchildren, Danny (Linda) Dutro of Tennessee, Kristina (Richard) Henry of Columbus and Renada (Travis) Pyatt of Columbus; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a son, Timothy Boroughs; and a stepson, Scott Cobb.
