On January 6, 1942 Wallace enlisted into the US Army Air Corp in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During WWII, Wallace flew P-47 fighters and was part of the 493rd Fighter Squadron. He flew 77 missions in the European Theater.
During the War years, Wallace had married and was blessed with two sons.
After the War, he served two tours of duty in the Pentagon; two tours at the Headquarters of Tactical Air Command in the Pacific Theater in Hawaii and two tours in England. When he returned to Clovis, New Mexico in 1971 his rank was a Bird Colonel.
Wallace married two more times and finally to Dean Downey in 1979 in Clovis. In July of 2003, Ret. Col. Wallace H Cameron died in Clovis and is buried in Wheatland Cemetery, not far from where he grew up in Cameron, New Mexico.
