Funeral services for William Ira Bernard, 28, who was killed in action in Europe November 30, 1944, were held at the National Cemetery at Nancy, Ky, Monday, August 15.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Terrol Bernard, of Irvin's Store, and the husband of Mrs. Lona Gosser Bernard. He was born at Irvin's store and resided there until he entered the army.

The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars had charge of the military services at the grave. Besides his widow and three children, Donald, Frances, and Philip, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Clara Eades, Lafayette, In.; Mrs. Ader Wilson and Mrs. Belva Chrisman of Fonthill, and Mrs. Earline McQueary, Russell springs, and two brothers, Delno and Homer Bernard of Fonthill.

Pfc. Bernard was born in Russell County, his mother was the former Emma Wade, his wife the former Miss Molona Gosser. Two birth records were issued, the first, filed in 1915, gave his birth date as March 29 of that year, the second, filed in 1945 gave his birth year as 1917. A marker in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, Nancy, Ky notes his birth and death dates as March 29, 1916 - November 10, 1944.
