Emma (Mrs. Albert) Mattson, 97, formerly of Elbow Lake, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton.
She was born Nov. 22, 1901, at Mount Vernon, S.D., to Otto and Minnie (Franklin) Kuchenbecker. She was baptized and confirmed in South Dakota. Following graduation from high school, she attended Business College in St. Cloud.
On Sept. 6, 1921, she married Albert Mattson near Elbow Lake. The couple farmed, and later operated a busy little coffee shop in Elbow Lake for a few years. She was known for her baking, especially her doughnuts and barbecues. She also did a great deal of crocheting and knitting. They were members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Elbow Lake Senior Citizens. In 1983, Emma and Albert moved to Breckenridge. Mr. Mattson died Feb. 27, 1988.
Survivors include her three daughters, Loota (Robert) Johnson of New Hope, Doris (Roland) Chayer of Minneapolis, and Audrey (Harold)) Hansen of Breckenridge; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hildred Sundquist of Orem, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Albert; five sisters and; two brothers.
