Sarah A. Craddock was born in Richmond, Va., Oct. 21, 1823, and died at her home in Hays, Kansas, Jan. 11, 1909.

She was married to J. R. N. Elliott (Ellett), on Sept. 6, 1837, in Illinois. From this union were born six children, two of whom are now living, J. B. Elliott (Ellett)of Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ella Butts of this city. On Nov. 18, 1870, she was married to David Rathbone in Livingston county, Mo. to whom she was a dutiful wife until her decease. She was a mother to the motherless and a faithful friend and adviser.

Although reared in a southern home, she was intensely loyal to the union side in the civil war. She was converted at the age of eleven years, and was baptized in Henderson county, Illinois, uniting with the Baptist church. She was a consistent and faithful member all her days. Her sweet christian character was a benediction to all who knew her. She knew that her end was near, but was not afraid to meet her God. She had that strong hope which is an "anchor to the soul, both sure and steadfast," and which entereth into that within the vale. She could indeed say: "O death, where is thy sting?" It had more for her. The blessed influence she has left behind her will extend in an ever ending circle.

Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Goodman of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Weist of the Lutheran church.
