U.S. Veteran Albert M. Finch, 83, of Keithsburg, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Burial is at Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg, with military rites conducted by Mercer County V.F.W. Post 1571. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the church. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Keithsburg Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in New Boston Township, the son of Roy Clifford and Dorothy Viana Taylor Finch. He married Bertha Ortery on Dec. 17, 1950, in Keithsburg.
Albert worked for the M & St. L Railroad, then he and his wife farmed in the Abington Township area. Albert then worked in the John Deere Foundry in Silvis for 28 years, retiring in 1987.
Albert served in the Army during WWII, serving mostly in the Philippines and Japan. He enjoyed being a junker and fisherman and was an avid John Deere person. Albert also loved watching western movies and wrestling. Albert was a former Keithsburg alderman and fireman.
Survivors are his wife, Bertha Finch, Keithsburg; four daughters, Cindy (Charles) Brock, Pam (Barry) Heath, Edith (Randy) Malcom and Mary Ebert, all of Keithsburg; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Thelma Robbins, Keithsburg, Edna Fields, Des Moines, Iowa, Patty Brock, Keithsburg, Leah Finley, LaHarpe, Ill.; brothers, Don Finch, Bettendorf, Rodney Finch, Florida, Gary Finch, Aledo, Roy Alan Finch; and special people, Don and Elly and Melvin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-granddaughter, Alex Heath; two sisters, Barb and Erma May; two brothers, Marion and Harry.
