The original name on his birth certificate was only initials - J. C.. When he registered for the draft, the postman told him "Now you can't just send in initials, you gotta have a name." So, the postman gave him the name of Joe, for his father's middle name of Joseph, and Carroll, which was the postman's middle name!

JC was a Master Furniture Refinisher and Repairman.

He loved music and liked to dance. He liked to fish. And sadly, he loved to drink on the weekends.

The cause of death was listed as heart attack, but he was in the hospital attempting to recover from back surgery for a ruptured disc. His bowels were not working properly and he was unable to pass gas. This pressure is what caused the heart attack.

He married first to Ruth Bishop. They had 3 daughters, JoAnn, Martha Nell and Mary.

He married second to Charlotte Kersey and they had 1 child, a son, Darwin Carroll Cato, Sr.
