Charles L. Follansbee was the son of Charles Lewis Follansbee, b. 20 Nov 1859, Pittsburg, Allegheny, PA; d. 15 Mar 1943, Fullerton, Orange County, CA.

Charles Lewis Follansbee was born near Tuscumbia, Albama. He came to Eufaula in 1902 at the age of 16 to work for Tully Mercantile Company. He first served as clerk, later becoming a bookkeeper. He was eventually office manager for his uncle, Judge, E. I, O'Reilly.

As one of the organizers of the State National Bank, he became the first cashier and a director. He continued as a director until his death in 1980. In the 1920's he became an independent insurance agent, continuing in that business until he sold it in 1964.

He as chairman of the South McIntosh Chapter of the American Red Cross for 40 years and served as treasurer of the Eufaula Lions Club for many years. He was a chapter member of the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce and its treasurer for a number of years. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, acting as the treasurer from 1955-1977 and donated the lots on which the church was built.

Mr. Follansbee was honored by the City of Eufaula as its Outstanding Citizen on his 87th birthday, October 38, 1973. He served as a member of the City Council.

Mr. Follansbee married Miss Florence Moss of Nevada, Missouri on November 20, 1912, who preceded him in death March 9, 1971. To this union was born one son, Charles Lewis Follansbee, Jr. who after graduation from Harvard School of Law became a well known Tulsa attorney. He died in January 1973.

Mr. Follansbee was married to Dorothy McClain Buckley on March 17,1980 at St. Paul's Catholic Church by Father John White.

Shortly before his death, he finished a plan he had had in mind many years, arranging to give a founding gift to a library in Eufaula so that young people would have the opportunity to better themselves. Though he did not live to see the fruition of his dream, Eufaula Memorial Library is largely the result of that dream, and the gift through his estate was the catalyst which brought it into being.

He died August 24, 1980 after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted by Father Arthur O'Hara of Saint Paul's Catholic Church.
