Ella Mae Popejoy Taylor
Ella Mae Popejoy Taylor passed away March 27, 2009, in Conroe. Ella Mae P. Taylor was born August 18, 1920, in Groesbeck, Texas, to Whit and Ella Popejoy. At a very early age, she became a member of the First Methodist Church in Groesbeck, where she had a perfect Sunday School attendance record of 11 years. In later years, she served as a Sunday School teacher and as church secretary of the First Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas.

She graduated from Groesbeck High School and, in 1940, married Carl W. Taylor of Mexia, Texas, who preceded her in death in 1974.

For many years, she did volunteer work in Girl Scouting. She also was employed as a secretary for the South Texas Girl Scout Council in Angleton, Texas.

As a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she served as Worthy Matron of the Angleton Chapter 54 and Clute Chapter 1011, holding several state offices at various times. She became Mother Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls and held the honor of Grand Cross of Colors in that organization.

For 18 years, she was employed at Intermedics Inc. in Angleton, Texas.

Ella Mae is survived by her son, C. Wallace Taylor, his wife, Jolene, and two grandsons, Mitchell and Matthew Taylor, and granddaughter, Autumn Taylor of The Woodlands; also survived by three nieces, Betty Duke of Groesbeck, Nadine Stafford and Jesse of South Carolina, and Gayle Farley and John of Sugar Land; three nephews, Joe Popejoy of California, Nelda Popejoy, wife of James Popejoy (deceased) of Mexia, Dwaine Popejoy and Sandy of Groesbeck, and Michael Popejoy and Deborah of Longview; and numerous other family members.

Graveside services to be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 4, 2009, at Restwood Memorial Park.

Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at the new Restwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Schwebel, Robert Shaw, Larry Townsend, Kenneth Owens, John Farley, Matthew Taylor and Lincoln Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Clute or Clute Order of the Eastern Star.
