It was on this march that was reported on his pension affidavit of some combat injuries. It was while on the March to the Sea that Frederick strained himself climbing over some log breastworks, resulting in a double hernia. Mustered out Aug 13, 1865 in Little Rock, Arkansas. When he was drafted in the Civil War Frederick & Theresia took to the bush to hide in Hume Township. Two weeks later, he was found. Theresia had already lost one husband and didn't want to lose another. She also had 3 children 3 years of age and younger.

After the Civil War, on Sept. 4, 1965, he was admitted to Harder General Hospital in Detroit, MI where he remained for several weeks before he was to see his family again.
