Janice M. Pierce, 75, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Waldron Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 7, 1933, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Robert Cowherd Sr. and Ruth (Byrd) Phillips.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (husband, Donald) Price of Shelbyville; brother, Robert M. Cowherd Jr. of Jackson, Miss.; uncle, Louis "Gene" Byrd of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Sterling Coit of Columbus, Ind., and Karriejoi Coit of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Kayla, Richard, Sammatha, Jordan, Julius and Amya; and goddaughter, Tamera Hall of Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Louis P. Smith and Luther Pierce; her parents; brother, Warren Cowherd; and sister, Shirley Culberson.

Mrs. Pierce was a homemaker.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board, in the missionary auxiliary and as the church clerk; She was a former president of Church Women United.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 34 W. Hendricks St.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the church, with Pastor Tony Lambert officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
