Chuck Allred was born in Maywood, California, to Charles Madison Allred and Frances Vivian Stevens. He was the eldest of five children. His siblings are: Margaret Allred (deceased), Frances Lazarus of Fresno, Joan Allred of San Lorenzo, and Lynn Allred of Fresno. After high school, he entered the navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Perkins in the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he returned to California to work as a builder.

In March of 1956, he married Marilyn Johnson, a school teacher, and they made their first home in Fresno, CA. Together, they had three children, Scott, Sam and Sande, before moving north to Cloverdale in 1962. While working as a contractor, he found a lot southeast of town, where he started to build his own home.

In January 1964, he was in a tractor, clearing a lot for a house, when the tree that he was carrying in the bucket rolled backwards onto him, crushing his spine and paralyzing him from the waist down. After his release from the hospital, he worked as a manager for KOA campgrounds and then as a bookkeeper for Sharp Trucking. In 1972, he had the opportunity to act as the contractor on the construction of a storageunit complex and that precipitated his re-turn to the occupation he loved...building. He built and remodeled many homes and businesses in the Cloverdale area until his retirement in 1992.

Chuck possessed a strong faith in God and was actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served as a Branch President, a High councilman and most currently, the Stake Patriarch. His greatest passions in life were his family, his religion, and the "Deer Club".

The "Deer Club," a ranch outside of Yorkville was his second home. He loved to fish the lakes there, hunt for quail and pigeon, take jeep rides, direct the construction of the roads and bridges, and most of all, to share these experiences with anyone he could find to go out there with him.

Family gatherings were something that he looked forward to with great anticipation. He enjoyed watching his 12 grandchildren ride the go-carts at the club. He loved to play Canasta with his kids and their spouses. He had a close relationship with his two daughters-in-law, Rachel and Marlene, and his son-in-law, Mike.

Chuck was a man of integrity and strong moral character who possessed a keen sense of humor. He enjoyed talking with people and would frequently stop at various homes and businesses throughout Cloverdale and honk his horn to let the occupant know he was there wanting to talk to them. We will miss the sound of that horn but are comforted by our faith in the knowledge that we will see him again and that he can once again walk.

Services were held last week in Ukiah.

Pallbearers: Michael Allred, Lynn Allred, David Bowen, Tom Gurries, Dave Lingner, Mike Krieger, Roger Taylor, and Claud Williams. Honorary Pallbearers: Steven Allred and Shane Allred.
