He never went to church. Had a drinking problem. Sometimes his horse & buggy would return home without him. He would use candles instead of electicity to save money. He sold his farm in Fairhaven Township in 1919 and moved into town. He didn't like it and bought a small farm (it was like a sandhill) by the sugar factory, nothing would grow. He moved back to town and was living with Otto H Neumann. He lived there till de died. He always lost money on all of his dealings. William never liked to have his picture taken. The night he died his daughter Laura changed his clothes. He died at the supper table.
