Randolph Center, VT - Nancy H. Simpson, 90, died Sunday morning, April 19, 2009, at the Windover House in Randolph.
She was born May 27, 1918, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Church) White.
Nancy graduated from the Lincoln School in Providence, R.I., in 1936. She continued her education at Colby Junior College where she completed a three-year medical secretary course, where she was president of the senior class. She was married to Robert Vose Simpson on Feb. 13, 1943, in Arnolds Mills, R.I. Mr. Simpson died in 2004. Mrs. Simpson worked as a medical secretary in Rhode Island and at Gifford Medical Center. The Simpsons moved to Randolph Center in 1966.
While living in Rhode Island, Nancy had served as president of the Cumberland Garden Club, was a member of the Blackstone Valley Historical Society, and a Girl Scout troop leader. In Vermont she was a member of the East Bethel Church, Middle Branch Grange, Randolph Garden Club, Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary, was a past president of Kimball Library Board of Trustees where she helped to get the library designated as a historical site, a tour guide at Vermont Historical Society, and was a reader at Randolph Elementary School. She also volunteered for the Red Cross blood drives. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and participating in a local French group.
She is survived by a son, Robert Simpson, Jr. and his wife Antonia of Burlington; two daughters, Linda Sivret and husband Robert of Randolph Center and Ellen Sivret and husband Tom of Barre. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Russell, Kenneth and Bradford White, and by sister, Cynthia Cargill.
Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. Burial will follow in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center. There are no calling hours.
