Mr. Clawson was born in the Henley area to Alfred and Bessie Ellen Brittsan Clawson.
His father was a native of the Henley area, having been born on the family homestead there. His mother was born on the Brittsan homestead on Johnson, Prairie, southeast of Ahsland.
When he was 6 years old the family moved to Ashland. He was a graduate of Ashland High School.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the latter part of the Great Depression.
He was married May 28, 1938, to Winnifred Gilchrist in Reno.
Mr. Clawson made his career in railroading, starting as a fireman for Ewauna Box Company Railroad between Quartz Mountain and Bly from 1935 to 1937.
He next was a fireman for the Oregon, California and Eastern steam engine railroad from 1937 to 1940.
From 1940 until his retirment in 1967, he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad Co. He retired as a locomotive engineer.
He was a member of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church of Klamath Falls.
Survivors include his wife Winnifred, Klamath Falls; children, Alan Clawson, Bend, Peggy Martin, Montague, Calif., Beverly Hodgins, Ashland, and David Clawson, Klamath Falls; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Theodore Clawson, Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Betty Wolcott, Bend; numerous other relatives.
