His early life was spent in New York state. On Sept. 14, 1861, he was married to Miss Anna Trojetta Homby at Weathersfield, IL. In 1865 he with his widowed mother, his wife and daughter, Mrs. Lilly Newton, came west, arriving at Deloit April 26, 1865.

He was very much pleased with the west and purchased two farms and a home in Deloit. At this home two daughters were born, Mrs. Jennie Hensen and Mrs. Helen Lee. Later he moved to the farm where he resided up to the time of his death and here his youngest daughter, Lois Lovicie, was born.

Mrs. Morris passed away on Jan. 11, 1905, and since that time Lovicie has kept house for her father. Mr. Morris experienced all the privations and hardships of the life of a
pioneer. Their trading was done at Nevada, Boone and Council Bluffs. These trips were first made with oxen and later with horses. Besides those long drives for supplies he also carried passengers overland to the various towns and in the winter it was not unusual to encounter snow drifts higher than the house. In those days Indians were frequent visitors in the settlements.

Besides farming, Mr. Morris served as mail carrier, supervisor trustee and school director In Goodrich township. He was n member of the Deloit school board at the time of the building of the accredited school. Mr. Morris was a member of the first soldier relief board organized in Crawford county and served on this board for thirty-one years. Mr. Morris enjoyed the best of health and had a great deal of pleasure in keeping busy and was active up until shortly before his death.

He leaves to mourn his departure one sister, Sally Withy, of Sanborn, N.Y., who is in her 91st year; his four daughters, Lilly, Jennie, Helen and Lovicie; three grandchildren: Mrs. A.D. Winey; Mrs. Leo. W. Newcom and Miss Helen Morris Lee; three great grandchildren, Eldridge, Leo, and Wesley Winey. These five generations were often represented at the family gatherings. Besides those mentioned above he leaves other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Deloit by the pastor, Rev. Lovejoy, on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. The following songs, "Rock of Ages," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," were rendered by Mr. and Mrs. K.E. Lenders, Mrs. Lovejoy, Chris Lingard, and Ruby, Edna, Rachel, Lois, Helen, Gladys, Mildred and Eleanor. The pall bearers were Fred True, B. Boysen, John DeWitt, John Anderson, N.L.
